To
some, green is the color of money. To others, green is an environmentally
responsible lifestyle. To us, it's both.
Alpacas offer significant profit
potential through herd growth, services such as breeding and boarding,
and, of course, the production of naturally organic fiber with
little impact to the earth for the environmentally responsible
farmer. |

Alpacas
as an
investment
|
When you put your
money in a savings account or other investment, you expect a periodic
return of interest or dividends. When reinvested, your return
is compounded. The same is true for growing an alpaca business.
Your dividends are the babies (crias) born yearly, and your dividend
is compounded when the crias mature to breeding status and provide
dividends of their own!
Raising alpacas offers the farmer some very attractive
tax advantages. When raising alpacas for profit, all the expenses
attributable to the endeavor can be written off against your income.
Expenses include not only feed, veterinarian care, etc., but depreciation
of tangible property such as breeding stock, barns and fences,
all of which can help shelter current cash flow from tax. |

Alpacas
for the
green
farmer
|
Alpacas seem to have
been designed for green farmer! They are lightweight and have
padded feet which will not damage a delicate landscape. With no
upper teeth, they gently nibble tender grass rather than pulling
it out by the roots. Because they evolved in harsh conditions,
they utilize their food efficiently, surviving well on different
kinds of low protein hay or pasture grass.
A group of alpacas leave their droppings in a communal
area. The pelletized droppings are easily scooped up and repurposed
as organic fertilizer.
Best of all, alpacas produce a yearly crop of naturally
organic fiber without need for chemicals, insecticides or fertilizers! |
